The Irish Haemovigilance Association (IHA) was set up in October 2001 in order to support and promote professional development of its members.

Its main objectives are:

* the establishment of an education programme,
* exploration of the career structure of the haemovigilance officer,
* to improve the communication network between haemovigilance officers nation-wide.
